When you compare a new music video to one from twenty years ago, you can learn a great deal about how the music industry has changed over the years. Generally if you look at a new music video and compare it to an old one, you can see that the visual quality of the contemporary video is advanced. Furthermore, the sound of the songs that accompany a new music video are more developed as far as technology is concerned. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that new music videos are better than older ones overall. New music videos may be more advanced when it comes to technology, but they are missing something that many older music videos had. The key ingredients which are missing from many of today’s videos are enthusiasm, passion and musical talent. The music videos of twenty years ago may look dated when we watch them now, but they seemed to celebrate music and all that it entails. By contrast new music videos have no soul because they are all about maximizing profit. If you watch the official video Lovestoned by Justin Timberlake and compare it to some stuff from the sixties, seventies and eighties, you will see what I mean.
